BOTOX® Cosmetic Ridgefield
Dr. Joseph J. Portale and his team perform BOTOX® Cosmetic enhancement procedures for patients of his Ridgefield practice who want to preserve or recapture the smooth, radiant skin of their youth. BOTOX® Cosmetic provides are a temporary remedy for pesky frown furrows, forehead lines, crow’s feet, and much more.
The BOTOX® Cosmetic Procedure
The BOTOX® procedure is rather simple compared to cosmetic surgeries, and it only takes a few minutes with no anesthesia required. BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into select muscles, specifically those responsible for the formation of wrinkles, with a very fine needle that most patients find to be nearly painless. The BOTOX® injections block signals from the nerves to those chosen muscles, meaning that the injected muscle will not be able to contract, allowing the wrinkles to relax.
Dr. Portale also provides two other variants to BOTOX® injections: XEOMIN® and Dysport®. The Dysport® injections are similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic in many ways; however, the effects may last longer for some patients. XEOMIN® is also very similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic, but it contains no additives, so there is less risk of developing antibodies against it.
Common Treatment Areas
Most patients like to use BOTOX® Cosmetic in the most common wrinkle areas. These areas are the forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet, located around the eyes. No matter what type of wrinkle you’re trying to smooth out, our Ridgefield dental practice will be able to do so with BOTOX® Cosmetic.
Benefits and Risks of BOTOX®
The most obvious benefit of using BOTOX® Cosmetic is that you’ll get a boost in your self-confidence because your facial skin will look smoother and more youthful; however, there are other benefits out there that you may not be aware of, including:
- It is a non-surgical procedure.
- The procedure can give you a fine eyebrow lift.
- The effects are temporary, and treatment can be repeated as desired.
- Compared to cosmetic surgery, it is very affordable.
There are some potential risks associated with BOTOX® treatment, just as there are with any other medical procedure. Most side effects, such as headaches, pain at the site of injection, and bruising, are relatively minor and subside fairly quickly. In very rare cases, people using BOTOX® Cosmetic may experience drooping eyelids or eyebrows, and they could stay that way for up to a few months.
BOTOX® Results and Recovery
To ensure the best results possible from your BOTOX® treatment, you should avoid alcoholic beverages about one week before the procedure. Additionally, you should avoid taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications for at least two weeks prior to treatment. Although results will vary, adhering to these restrictions may help improve the results and make your recovery time faster.
After treatment, you’ll see improvement within days, and the improvements may continue for up to one month. The results can last up to four months, depending on the individual.
Are You a Good Candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Most patients are eligible to receive BOTOX® injections. Those that aren’t include women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and patients with neurological diseases. In addition, BOTOX® injections will not work for everyone’s wrinkles; Dr. Portale can help you determine whether BOTOX® treatment will be effective in your particular case.
XEOMIN® and Dysport® are solid alternatives if BOTOX® treatment will not work for you. Find out which treatment works the best for you by setting up an appointment with Portale Dental.
Medical Applications of BOTOX®
Although BOTOX® injections are widely known for their cosmetic applications, they can also be used to treat certain medical issues. These issues include excess sweating, chewing problems, problems with digestion, pelvic muscle spasms, drooling, and even hair loss. Although there are medical applications for BOTOX®, we mainly use it to smooth out wrinkles so you can get ready for your close-up.
